"Thanks Norman! I received my pens and inked them up last night. The Duke 209 “western” nib is absolutely amazing. It’s better than some expensive Pelikan nibs that I own. I have not had high expectations for third-world nibs in past experience, apart from the high-end 14k Hero pens you sold me. This Duke Chinese-made steel nib has me seriously re-evaluating the low end of the market!  I haven’t tried the Chinese calligraphy nib yet, but it looks like fun. The Lanbitou pocket rocket was another pleasant surprise. It’s probably the best x-fine nib I’ve ever experienced. They should train Hero on how to do it. As for the “Space Arrow,” it’s dry and balky. I’ll have to fuss with it a bit. I love the design though --- if they made a version of this as a cartridge pen, I think they’d have a real winner. Thanks for the prompt service. I look forward to whatever goodies from Duke that you decide to import next. Best regards,

P. F., Orlando, FL

"Norman, Just a note to say my pens arrived quickly and in great shape.  Your nib adjustments must be magic because after cleaning and inking with Chesterfield Night Sapphire the pen writes like a much more expensive piece.  My daughter is now itching to get hers going.  Thanks for a wonderful shopping experience especially the handwritten note.  You’ve gained a fan and a customer."
R. R., Zanesville, OH

"Whenever I just think of the Lanbitou Pocket Rocket it just brings a smile to my face.  It is such a beautiful, tiny piece of work.  I’m smiling as I type this! The Duke Gold Rings and the Jinhao Black Dreadnaught are both beautiful pens.  When I first opened their packages it was a case of “Wow, these are impressive.”  The Duke is well weighted when posted and the impression of quality is carried through when the pen top closes with a satisfying click.  It produces a rich wet line even though it is a fine point. It’s so good I’m buying another as present for my sister. The Jinhao Black Dreadnaught exudes quality with a deep glossy black finish, this is as impressive as a pen can get.  It is quite weighty, which adds to the feeling of high quality, but when posted is beautifully balanced. Even allowing for the fact that I prefer fine nibs the line it produces is the finest I have encountered.  This is a pen I can write as small as I like with and not have to worry about my writing becoming an indecipherable blob – love it!"

"Hello Norman, I received your pens and the kit yesterday and I must say that both pens look much better in person than I thought they would! I'm usually leery of Chinese pens but thought they would at least write better with your tuning, and they did, quite well! I cleaned them thoroughly as suggested and then inked them up (616 with Private Reserve Claret and Pocket Rocket with Quink Black) and I must say both are really glassy smooth. The 616 produces a very fine line which is perfect for my handwriting. The syringes will come in handy for refilling cartridges for older pens. Additionally, I must add that the handwritten note is a nice touch! All in all, I am a satisfied customer and will be referring back to you for further purchases."

"Hey Norman! thanks for the Lanbitou Pocket Rocket – cute little pen, writes well and fits in my pocket."
M. M., Orlando, FL

"I just received and inked my Lanbitou black pocket rocket.  It is wonderfully tiny and writes perfectly.  It is just so cute!  May have to get the silver one when it is back in stock."
C. M., Denver, CO

"Arrived today & I love the way it writes- size is perfect."
J. B., Grapevine, TX

"Hey Norman I just wanted to say I'm more than thrilled I got my pens today! I just filled them with ink and I'm writing everything I'm thinking lol. But besides the point I just want to let you know that I'm so thankful that I found your site and that I'm super happy with your service. I will be returning soon!"

Lanbitou Black Pocket Rocket    $10.00    Sold out

Lanbitou Flighter Pocket Rocket    $10.00    Permanently sold out

The Pocket Rocket is a pen that will fit anywhere -- like the Space Arrow and Monteverde Poquito --  and perfect for those times when a sequestered fountain pen is the only way to go.

The pen measures a scant 3-3/4" capped, an eminently comfortable 5" posted and a virtually unusable 3-1/8" with cap held aside.

The only thing near full-size on this pen is its clip, which bears the only adornment, "Lanbitou".

Removing the slip cap reveals the hooded nib, which is only available in a western fine (would you expect a broad nib on a pen of this size?) and knurled finger-pads on the section, which are a thoughtful addition on a slim pen such as this.

Unscrewing the all-metal threads between the section and barrel displays the pump-style filler for bottled ink. As with all new pens, I recommend to run a dilute solution of dishwashing soap (two or three drops to a small bowl of water) through a new pen a few times, followed by water only. Step one is effective at removing manufacturing oils that can tend to make the ink less than enthusiastic in heading from the converter/filler to the nib, and step two removes the traces of the detergent you've used...which tends to have the opposite, diuretic effect.

All-in-all, the perfect emergency fountain pen for vest pocket, handbag or the loop of a notebook.

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTE: Every nib that ships from His Nibs is closely examined under high magnification and tuned or adjusted if needed. About 85% of modern nibs need some adjustment out-of-the-box from the manufacturer for an optimal writing experience. Most commonly, the tines of the nib are misaligned -- which would cause scratchiness at the minimum; the slit between the tines is partially or fully closed -- which would starve the nib of ink and at best cause skipping; or the slit between the tines is too wide -- which will either again cause skipping, or conversely, flooding. There are other factors  -- such as separation of the nib from the feed -- that are inspected and repaired before any pen leaves the Palace.

The only 100% guarantee of course comes when the pen is actually filled with ink and written with for the first time, but our pre-shipping inspections and tunings have eliminated 99.99999 (my finger is getting tired) of the frustrations that a customer experiences when first using a new fountain pen. Although this can be time-consuming on occasion, it affords our customers a much more pleasant experience when receiving a fountain pen from His Nibs -- and saves us the frustration of dealing with returns!

Warranties and returns

If an item proves to be defective, in most cases the manufacturer's warranty will apply. However, please email us first so that we can determine the easiest way to resolve the problem to your satisfaction. In the case of fountain pens -- which are a bit more individualistic than other writing instruments -- what may at first appear to be a defect (hard starting or poor flow for example), can in almost all cases be resolved with a few simple 'tweaks' to the nib, which we'll be happy to guide you through or perhaps suggest returning to us for adjustment.

Should you wish to return a non-defective item within 3 days of receipt because it doesn't suit you for some reason, again please email us and we'll arrange an exchange, credit or refund (minus any shipping/insurance charges), if the item is returned in an 'as new' condition. If you've dipped a fountain pen to try its writing characteristics, kindly clean off any ink residue prior to shipping -- to save us both a nasty surprise .

We want you to be happy with your purchase from HisNibs.com and hope to have you join the ranks of our many long-term, repeat customers!
